This is definitely not okay, but we all must first understand this phenomenon before bashing China for this ad. East Asian countries like China still follow the racial hierarchy established by the white people living in “early America”. Most traditional Chinese people may seem incredibly racist because they highly desire Anglo/white features and light skin. This results in many Chinese people valuing white people more than themselves and disassociating themselves from people with darker skin tones. AND that is why ads like this are still around in 2016. Keep in mind this is a product of the thousands of years of racism and white supremacy invading international countries.
AND this ad was based off of an Italian laundry detergent commercial also problematic.
I was honestly surprised that a Chinese man jumped out of the washing machine, I expected a blonde blue-eyed boy.
